1045 is a medium carbon steel with a carbon content of 0.43% to 0.5%. It has good weldability, good processability, high strength and impact resistance, but due to the lack of suitable alloying elements, its hardenability is low, but after flame or induction quenching treatment, its surface hardness can reach 54-60HRC. AISI 1045 is usually supplied in black hot forged or normalized condition and has a tensile strength of 570-700 MPa and a surface hardness of 170-210HB.
Due to its good machinability and weldability, AISI 1045 is commonly used in the manufacture of bolts, nuts, shafts, pins, tools, chains and gears. In addition, AISI 1045 is used in the manufacture of hand tools such as hammers and hammer handles.
