S220GD galvanized steel pipe is a type of structural grade steel pipe product with high-quality carbon steel as the substrate and treated by hot-dip galvanizing. The formed steel pipe is immersed in molten zinc liquid to form a dense and firmly adherent zinc coating on its surface. This coating also provides:
Physical barrier protection: isolation from moisture, salt spray, and chemicals.
Electrochemical cathodic protection: Even if the coating is partially damaged, it can still protect the steel substrate through sacrificial anode action.
Minimum yield strength ≥ 220 MPa (meets structural requirements)
Typical tensile strength range: about 300 – 400 MPa
Optional zinc layer weight: about 60 – 275 g/m² (customized according to environmental requirements)
Outer diameter (OD): 10 mm – 2820 mm, covering light pipes to large diameter structural pipes
Wall thickness (WT): 0.3 mm – 150 mm, suitable for ventilation, drainage pipes to heavy structural parts
This high configurability enables S220GD galvanized steel pipe to be deployed in multiple scenarios in the fields of construction, municipal administration, transportation, HVAC, agricultural facilities, etc.
The high adhesion zinc coating forms a continuous protective barrier and performs well in humid, acid rain, salt spray, and light chemical corrosion environments. S220GD hot-dip galvanized pipe is particularly recommended for coastal, outdoor, and industrial areas.
The 220 MPa yield grade makes it suitable for light structural parts, enclosure systems, support systems and other stress-bearing parts. If the project has additional requirements for load bearing, it can be matched with higher grades (such as S250GD, S350GD) to optimize material selection.
Can be cut, drilled, bent, tapped, and welded; suitable for on-site processing or factory prefabrication. For projects that require large-scale processing or modular installation, S220GD structural galvanized pipe saves a lot of construction time.
Production can be carried out according to ISO, ASTM A53/A139/A252, EN10219, EN10210, JIS G3444 and other standards, which are suitable for global engineering bidding and compliance acceptance.
Compared with stainless steel, hot-dip galvanized structural pipes provide sufficient protection and significant price advantages, especially suitable for large-scale structural piping, fencing and infrastructure.
Depending on the specifications, uses, costs and performance requirements, S220GD galvanized steel pipes can be formed in the following ways:
ERW (Electric Resistance Welded): Commonly used for small and medium specifications, cost-effective.
HFW (High-Frequency Welded): The weld is neat and suitable for industrial use.
SAW / SAWL / SAWH (Submerged Arc Welding, including Spiral Welding): Suitable for large diameter pipes and long pipe sections.
SMLS (Seamless): Used for pressure, impact resistance or high-demand systems.
All processes are pre-treated with degreasing, pickling, plating assistance, drying, etc. before galvanizing to ensure that the zinc layer is continuous, uniform and has strong bonding.
